Dattebayo Feedback Forum, Volume 2
2007/03/19
Welcome everyone to Feedback Forum, Volume 2!
I know its been a while since we had volume one, but things have been very busy and we just haven't had much time for things like feedback. Rest assured though, that someone on staff does read every single feedback that comes into our system.
Before we begin, this is rated PG-13, so if you can't deal with that, direct yourself elsewhere.
Today I'm feeling very informative, so I'm going to answer a lot of questions. Just for fun, I'm going to break down a bunch of recent feedback's we've received so you can see what people write to us about.
First we have the happy people, who have no problems at all. This is the kind of feedback that makes us happy inside when we feel like giving up. We appreciate it! This is how it breaks down:
30 People sent general praise
- Thank you! It's people who appreciate our work that make it worth while.
23 People thanked us for introducing them to 5 Centimeters Per Second
- 5 Centimeters Per Second was the show that we released in the Naruto 5cm Troll. This was one of the reasons it was released, and we are glad you enjoyed it.
14 People thanked us for donating to Doctors Without Borders
- For this we thank you. It is though all of your donations in January that we were able to make this possible.
Besides these people, one person sent in a 1000 word essay to get unbanned, and one person informed us that our site was listed on the Wikipeida entry for petabyte, for having served 8.22 pb worth of data in our downloads. We love facts like this. That is 69 positive feedbacks all together.
Next we have the people who are mad at us. This category used to be bigger, but we still get a fair amount of this.
7 People sent junk feedback, like spam, garbage or what not.
5 People had general hate for us.
8 People complained about being banned.
- These kind of things just make us laugh out loud, since its basically the best kind of feedback. It means people really got angry by us fooling them, or angry that we banned them. Keep these feedbacks coming.
66 People were successfully trolled.
- People who were successfully trolled by our troll episodes, in this case mostly 5cm. It brings us endless joy. It makes it all worth while.
That makes 86 people expressing some kind of hate.
Then we have the final category, people asking questions. We get a lot of varied questions. Because I'm feeling super nice today, I'll answer every single question we've gotten lately. You won't get this kind of service anywhere else.
15 people asked why something wasn't out yet.
- If its Bleach or Naruto, because it didn't air. If its Pokemon, its because we do Pokemon in our off time. What a stupid question this is for you to ask. It says right on the site, that feedback isn't for asking about release times. Don't fucking do it. Thanks!
6 People had misc. tech problems with the site, torrents or playback.
- Well people, it sucks to be you. Get a PC, Download Koepi's XVID and you can watch our releases in Media Player Classic. That’s all the advice I can offer. For those who can't even figure out how to download, learn how to use the internet. In time you will either figure it out, or come to understand why you can't.
4 People asked why Pokemon was subbed so slow.
- I just told you. We do Bleach and Naruto on a fixed schedule. Pokemon is done on our off time. Don't expect it to go too fast, though it should speed up a bit now that it has a steady translator. I was disappointed that not one of you asked about Pita.
4 People requested earlier episodes of series.
- What does it say on the fucking feedback submit page. It says to not ask about old/new/future/whatever episodes. Do you people fucking read? God damn you stupid fuckers. READ THE FUCKING TEXT ON YOUR SCREEN. If its not on the torrent page, we are not going to help you get it in any way, shape or manor. Get it?
4 People asked if they could help out.
- Thanks for the offer, but we are in pretty good shape. If we ever need your help, you will know on the website or in our IRC channel. Until then, the answer is probably not. We still encourage highly skilled Japanese translators to contact us, though at the moment, we have more staff than we can even give work to, a state of being that makes us very happy.
3 People asked what series Naruto 005CM was.
- It's called 5 Centimeters per Second. We are very glad you enjoyed it. Please google for more information.
3 People asked if they can donate.
- Thats very generous of you, but no, you can't. We opened donations because we needed your support, and we got it. If we ever need your help again, we will call upon you. Thanks!
3 People asked if they could sub a show in another language.
- At this time, we aren't taking new languages for any of our shows. Sorry. That's just the way it is. The parts of DB responsible for that stuff don't have the time or interest in dealing with more international versions. If this changes, you will hear from us.
2 People asked about the legality of downloading material from this site.
- All Fansubs, including the ones on this site, are a violation of international and US copyright law. How much they are tolerated, or what the consequences of such violation are is much debated. When you download, you take the risk. It is the same risk you take when you download music or movies illegally, except the RIAA and MPAA do not defend the titles on this site.
2 People wanted to learn more about the subbing process.
- I suggest you find yourself a nice little fansubbing group, join it and start to learn. DB's process is a whole lot different from normal fansubbing processes (though the norm is clearly changing). As for fansubbers interested in our process, feel free to chat with me, interactii on IRC. It would be my pleasure to talk to you. Feel free to stalk me too, I’m single.
2 People asked why we don't post notes when eps aren't out.
- Because we don't want to. We love trolling you. Anyone of reasonable intelligence could see right though the trolls, and yet so many fall for them. It’s great.
And then a bunch of people who asked questions that no one else asked.
About an RSS Feed for torrents: Not yet. Who knows what the future will bring.
About why DHT is disabled: Because with DHT enabled we can't track our release numbers.
Asking if they can subscribe: To what?
Asking why YouTube is removing videos: Because we asked them to. We hate when people watch our work on YouTube.
Can I have an upload to my FTP/HTTP/ETC: No.
Where are your direct downloads: In the topic of the IRC Channel.
Your site is unprofessional: Yes, I suppose it is.
How can I download files: You can't. sorry.
Can you make another feedback forum: Yes, wish granted.
Can you sub in HD: No, the shows aren't fucking released in HD, so we can't sub them that way.
Why are episodes different sizes (145, 170): Because sometimes there’s not enough motion in the episode to justify 170, and the releases would come out weird sizes less than that.
Do you have a new staff in place: No, the staff is your same old lovable staff.
Strangeness with the Pokemon 2 release: Never you mind that.
Why don't you have a forum: We do, its just that we are the only ones who get to read the posts.
Why don't you sell your fansubs on DVD: Because we don't believe in making money from our subtitles.
Holy crap, that is a fuckton of questions answered. So that’s 63 people with questions. All together, that makes 218 feedbacks covered in a single feedback forum. That's pretty impressive if I do say so myself! Please note that pointing out that my numbers don't add up right will result in a ban.
Enjoy folks!
