Naruto Delayed due to Hollywood Writers Strike [YHBT]
2007/11/08
Yesterday, Dattebayo was informed that the writers for Naruto, including Steven Jay Blum and Gary David Goldberg, are both members of the Writer's Guild of America.
However difficult it may be to accept, Dattebayo has decided to side with the writers on the issue, and out of respect for the writers decided to delay the release of Naruto indefinitely, even though Dattebayo has already completed subtitling the next 37 episodes of the series. Unlike other fansubbing release groups that do not support the causes of the WGA, Dattebayo does. The WGA is mainly asking for a share of profits generated by internet sales. Dattebayo's policy of giving writers 14.5% of the profits from internet sales was cited as one of the causes that sparked the strike as other writers sought similar treatment from other studios. See this link for more information on the causes of the strike.
Because of this, Naruto will not be released this week. Bleach and Genshiken are not affected due to the fact they are both written by North Korean writer Kim Jong-il, who only belongs to the WGOSCC.
This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
